You may be wondering how a sports bar could be opening during a time when sports have literally been canceled. Well, the games may have been postponed but the love for our teams hasn’t gone anywhere. If anything, our team spirit has grown; distance makes the heart grow fonder, right?
The Daily Draft can’t wait to hear you sing your fight songs out of tune, wear your favorite players jerseys, and yell about a referee’s bad call.
Sports On Demand at The Daily Draft
We promised you sports on demand and you will get just that! Let’s give you a little update on what we can look forward to as sports begin to make their [much anticipated] comeback.
As the news keeps pouring in everyday about tentative return dates for Major League Baseball and the NBA, we’re gearing up to have a jam-packed summer of sports if all goes well and in the direction we’re all hoping for!
With golf, European soccer and Nascar picking back up, the players, the fans and the team owners are all starting to sing a similar tune – July!!!
Baseball
The owners of the MLB teams have approved a plan that would restart baseball in July. They’ve begun negotiations regarding their plan with the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) but it has been put on hold due to the Memorial Day Weekend. We will be sure to keep you updated as things progress.
Basketball
A mid-July return date for the NBA 2019-2020 season is buzzing around the news. However, nothing will be officially announced until a plan regarding COVID-19 precautions is agreed upon.
The current debate is over splitting all the games this season to only be hosted at two locations: Orlando’s Walt Disney Resort has “gained clear momentum” and Las Vegas and Houston are the other cities being considered.
Hockey
The NHL is not, however, singing the same tune as the MLB and NBA in regards to a plan to start their season back up again. They express their concerns regarding getting all of the players back from other countries. Although they have the option to pick this current season back up this summer, and delay the start to next season, 17% of their players are outside of North America so that would be the first issue to handle. The next item that needs to be figured out is whether they play in a central location similar to what the NBA is currently discussing. We know they’re eager to get back to work and as are their fans! Executives and players have formed a Return to Play Committee and have regular digital meetings.
